Eosinophil percentage measures the proportion of your white blood cells that are eosinophils, typically making up less than five percent of total white blood cells. Eosinophils are immune cells involved in allergic reactions, responses to parasites, and certain inflammatory conditions

Because eosinophil levels increase when the immune system reacts to allergens, infections, or inflammation, changes in eosinophil percentage can provide clues about immune system activity. This measurement is typically evaluated as part of a complete blood count (CBC) with differential, which assesses the balance of different white blood cell types.

What is Eosinophils %?  

Eosinophil percentage tells you what proportion of your white blood cells are eosinophils relative to other immune cells, such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes. 

Looking at absolute eosinophil count and eosinophils percentage together helps provide a clearer picture of immune activity: 

  • If both eosinophil percentage and absolute count are elevated, the body may be producing more eosinophils in response to allergies, parasites, or inflammation.
  • If the percentage of eosinophils is elevated but the absolute count is normal, it may indicate that other white blood cell types have decreased rather than eosinophils increasing.

Low Eosinophils %

Low eosinophil percentages often occur during acute illness, physiological stress, or when the immune system is responding to infection. Symptoms usually reflect the underlying condition affecting the immune system.
