Hydrating Helps You Live Longer so Consider These Celeb-Backed Waters an Investment in Your Health

No wonder Momoa and The Rock look so damn healthy.

You already know that drinking enough water is important for staving off signs of dehydration like headaches and brain fog. But a new study in eBioMedicine has linked dehydration with several scarier outcomes including chronic illness, aging, and early death.

The researchers analyzed blood sodium levels—which are lower when you drink less water — of 11,255 adults, who were surveyed five times over the course of 25 years. People with high blood sodium levels were more likely to suffer from health conditions such as stroke, heart failure, dementia, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

Not only that, but low hydration levels were linked with higher biological age, measured by the presence of biomarkers associated with aging. Accordingly, less hydrated people were also more likely to have experienced premature death.

Before you get depressed over these findings, here’s the good news: Dehydration is entirely preventable since there are more ways than ever to hydrate fast.

HYDRATION

Electrolyte powders and healthy energy drinks can keep you hydrated, but so can plain water. And if getting it from a (filtered) tap doesn’t do it for you, there’s another growing option: celebrity-backed water brands.

These picks have benefits that go beyond their A-list backing. None of these brands use plastic bottles, which trash the planet and contain endocrine disruptors that can tank testosterone. They can be a little pricier than other bottled H20, but it’s a small price to pay for protecting your hormone—and brain—health.

Mananalu

Jason Momoa founded the Hawaiian water company Mananalu to provide an alternative to plastic water bottles. These bottles are instead made of recyclable aluminum. Through a partnership with rePurpose Global, the brand also helps remove plastic and other waste from the ocean. So when you buy from the OG Aquaman, you’re helping not just yourself but the environment.

Voss

He’s better known for his Teremana tequila and ZOA Energy drink, but The Rock also owns a piece of the water aisle. He became an investor in Voss back in 2019, according to Fast Company. In a statement, The Rock said in an Instagram post that he was joining the team to “create new products and develop strategic brand initiatives,” which we imagine involves chugging Voss while building his massive quads. Voss was one of the first bottled water brands to choose glass over plastic but they’re still pushing forward with sustainability: According to their website, the company aims to only use glass, aluminum, and 100% recycled PET by 2025.

No1 Botanicals

If you prefer some flavor in your water, check out No1 Botanicals, which infuses its water with rosemary, ginger, fennel, and lemon verbena. Henry Cavill was part of a campaign for this brand; in a video, he visits the Italian village of Acciaroli, where 10 percent of residents live beyond the age of 100. Their own custom of drinking rosemary and fennel-infused water is apparently their secret, as these herbs can improve brain function and fight inflammation.

GET ELECTROLYTES

Aquahydrate

Mark Wahlberg and Sean Combs are both investors in Aquahydrate, whose water is infused with 72 trace minerals, sterilized with UV light, and filtered using reverse osmosis. Despite having no calories or sugar, it’s full of energy-giving electrolytes.

JUST Water

Like Momoa, Jaden Smith wanted to help save the environment and prevent damage done by plastic water bottles. So, he started the brand JUST Water, which provides sparkling and still water in fun flavors like cucumber, watermelon, and coconut mint. The bottles are all made of aluminum and other sustainable materials.
