What is a NAD+ Injection? How Can it Support Your Health?

You’ll need a doctor’s prescription but we can help with that.

Fast Facts

  • Buying NAD+ injections online is safe as long as you have a prescription from a licensed medical provider and it comes from a reputable pharmacy.
  • You can self-administer NAD+ injections at home.
  • NAD+ injections may boost energy levels, improve cognitive function, increase lifespan, and help with weight loss.

If you’re looking for ways to feel your best as you age—or potentially even increase your lifespan—you’ve probably heard of NAD+. The buzzy coenzyme may slow the progression of age-related diseases, extend lifespan, and more. You can swallow NAD+ oral supplements and get NAD+ IV therapy at clinics, but the most effective way to boost your levels is with NAD injections, which you can buy online and administer in the comfort and privacy of your own home. And it’s perfectly safe.

Buying NAD+ injections online—or frankly, buying any supplement on the internet—isn’t something to take lightly. The Food and Drug Administration doesn’t regulate supplements the same way they regulate medications, so it’s important to get supplements, including NAD injections from a source you can trust (more on that below).

Interested in getting NAD injections at home? Here’s everything you need to know.

What is NAD+?

NAD+, a form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is found in virtually every cell in your body (all 37.2 trillion of them) and is involved in almost all major biological processes, says Jack Jeng, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Hone Health.

“We’re still learning about the benefits of NAD+, but it appears to help protect us from inflammation, DNA damage, oxidative stress, and other factors that age us,” says Jeng.

Your body produces NAD+ on its own. It also, through a series of chemical reactions, takes micronutrients and substances from food and supplements and turns them into NAD+ (1).

NAD+ is crucial to cellular health. But here’s the thing: NAD+ levels tend to naturally decline as you age. Between young adulthood and old age, they can plummet by as much as 25 percent in certain organs (2, 3). Stress, alcohol use, and a poor diet can speed up that decline (4).

That’s scary, since declining NAD+ levels have been linked to premature aging, as well as health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer (5).

NAD+ at a Glance

  • NAD+ is a coenzyme that can protect you from inflammation, DNA damage, oxidative stress and other factors that age you.
  • Your body produces NAD+ but as you get older, you make less.
  • Diminished NAD+ levels have been linked to premature aging and serious health conditions including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

Benefits of NAD Injections

NAD+ may have only recently popped up on your radar, but researchers discovered it way back in 1906. Over the last few decades, scientists have been studying its potential to slow down or reverse age-related health issues, improve energy and focus, speed up metabolism, boost cardiovascular health, and more.

“The research on NAD+ is limited in humans, but what we’ve seen so far is very promising,” says Jeng.

Studies suggest a smorgasbord of potential NAD+ benefits. Increasing NAD+ levels may have a variety of anti-aging benefits including:

  • Improved muscle performance (7)
  • Protection for your liver and kidneys (1)
  • Improved blood vessel function (1)
  • Delaying neurological diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and ALS (1, 7, 8)
  • Boosting immunity (1)
  • Helping with weight loss (1)
  • Increased lifespan (1)
  • Improved brain function
  • Improved athletic performance

Are NAD+ Injections Effective?

You can take NAD+ supplements and get NAD+  infusion therapy, but NAD+ injections offer some unique benefits over the other delivery methods, says Jeng. Among them:

Better absorption

NAD+ supplements have to travel through your digestive system before reaching your bloodstream. With injections, NAD+ is absorbed directly into your blood, so it can get to work faster (9).

Convenience

NAD+ IV drips also bypasses the gut, but you can’t DIY an IV. You need to spend several hours at a clinic, tethered to an IV drip to get a similar dose to home injections.

How Do I Buy NAD Shots?

Several companies sell you NAD+ injections for home use. Hone takes the guesswork out of the process and ensures that you’re getting a high-quality product you can trust.

Hone’s compounding pharmacy partner is accredited by the Professional Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB), which certifies compounding pharmacies that meet the highest standards.

You can work with Hone to discuss whether NAD+ injections are right for you in two ways:

Option 1: Send a request for NAD+ injections a doctor to review

If you’re interested in NAD+ injections at home, you don’t even need to book a telehealth visit; you can have an asynchronous consult with a Hone physician. Here’s how that works:

Step 1. Create an account

Creating a Hone account only takes a few minutes.

Step 2. Complete an online intake form

Fill out Hone’s online form, which asks why you’re interested in NAD+ injections. You’ll also be asked to share some basic health information. A medical provider who is licensed in your state will review the form.

If he or she has any questions for you based on your intake form answers, they’ll message you for more information. If the doctor thinks NAD+ injections are appropriate, they’ll send your prescription to the pharmacy.

Your doctor will provide specific instructions on your dose, how often to take it (usually two to three times a week), and any side effects to keep an eye out for, like cramping or nausea.

You’ll also receive information on how to give yourself a shot (don’t worry; most customers say it’s relatively painless).

Step 3. Subscribe to your treatment plan

Your first monthly shipment will be sent within a few days of the pharmacy receiving the prescription. After that, your prescription will arrive monthly.

NAD+ injections are shipped with ice packs. When you get your NAD+ injections, store them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them.

Step 4. Let your doctor know how you’re doing

After three months, your doctor will check in to see if you have any questions or concerns. If everything is going well, they’ll check in again after another six months.

Of course if you have any questions outside of those check-ins, you can message your doctor any time through your Hone account.

Option 2: Start with an at-home blood test

If you’re interested in NAD+ injections but also curious about other treatments offered by Hone, like testosterone replacement therapy, the process is slightly different.

Step 1: Order an at-home test

Hone’s at-home test measures biomarkers.

These biomarkers aren’t specifically used to determine whether NAD+ is right for you, but they will help your doctor get a better picture of your overall health and identify hormone deficiencies.

When you receive the test in the mail, collect a blood sample (just a finger prick!) and mail it to Hone’s CLIA and CAP-accredited lab partner.

Step 2: Have a telehealth consult with a Hone doctor

When your lab tests are back, a Hone doctor will review the results with you during a telehealth visit.

If your testosterone levels are clinically low, the doctor will go over the different types of testosterone therapy available from Hone, along with the benefits and any potential side effects of each.

During this visit you can also discuss NAD+ injections.

Step 3: Subscribe to your personalized treatment plan

After your doctor prescribes testosterone therapy, NAD+, or a combination of the two, you’ll subscribe to a personalized treatment plan, and wait for your monthly delivery of medications.

Step 4: Follow up with your doctor

Depending on which medications you are taking, you’ll have follow-up lab tests (typically every 90 days) and review the results with your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan based on these lab results and how you are doing.

Hone’s hormone assessment is fast, simple, and you can do it from home. For one low price, you’ll get your blood analyzed by an accredited lab, a 30-minute video consultation with one of our doctors to go through your results.

How Much Do NAD Injections Cost?

NAD+ infusion therapy sessions can run upwards of $1200 per session, and NAD+ injections for home use can cost $425 per month or more through other companies.

NAD+ injections through Hone are just $165 per month.

You’ll also pay a monthly membership fee, which varies depending on whether or not you are receiving testosterone therapy. If you only take NAD+, your monthly membership fee is $25. If you’re on TRT as well and require periodic lab testing, the monthly membership fee is $129.

Do I Need a Prescription for NAD Injections?

Yep. In order to receive NAD+ injections from Hone, one of our licensed medical professionals will determine if a prescription is appropriate.
